About Palliative Care WA Inc

Palliative Care WA Inc is a not-for-profit association incorporated under the Western Australian Associations Incorporation Act 1987.

The objectives of Palliative Care WA Inc include:

1. be a representative community organisation which seeks to improve the quality of care and support available to all Western Australians at the end of life
2. promote the principles and practices of palliative care with the intention of enhancing the broader community’s capacity to provide care and support at the end of life
3. advocate for appropriate services and benefits for Western Australians confronting issues and problems commonly associated with the end of life
4. advocate for appropriate palliative care education and training for all who provide care and support to people at the end of life
5. promote the aims of the Association through cooperation and collaboration with stakeholders in palliative and end of life care
6. act as a coordinating body and information resource for organisations and service agencies which provide care at the end of life and which promote the principles and practices of palliative care
7. establish and maintain committees which are active in areas including, but not limited to, clinical services, standards and quality, education and community capacity building.

Membership

You are welcome to join Palliative Care WA Inc.  Membership runs from 01 July to 30 June each year.  Current fees are:

1. individual - $55
2. concession (pensioners, carers and full-time students) - $20
3. hospice and/or palliative care service volunteers - $20
4. corporate (organisations) - $137.50.

Background

Palliative Care WA Inc is governed by an Executive Committee elected from the membership.  The President for the period 2007-09 is Dr Scott Blackwell.

Palliative Care WA Inc employs an Executive Officer, who reports directly to the Executive Committee.  Funding for the organisation is primarily provided by membership fees, government funds, merchandise sales, and donations.

There are several subcommittees which report to the Executive Committee:

1. Clinical Issues Working Group
2. Standards and Quality Committee
3. St Luke’s Day Service Organising Committee.

Palliative Care WA Inc is a founding member of Palliative Care Australia.
