Submission of Abstracts
The 2010 Western Australian Palliative Care Conference Organising Committee invites you to submit abstracts for presentations and workshops.

Specific areas of interest include:

  • advance care planning
  • supporting children when a parent is dying
  • legal affairs and bioethics: ‘the double effect’, withdrawal of treatment etc
  • palliative care for people with long-term disabilities
  • palliative care for people with COPD
  • dying in aged care: managing pain in people with dementia
  • sexuality and intimacy at the end of life
  • WA projects and research.

In total there will be:

  • 2 plenary presentations of 30 minutes each
  • two workshops of 50 minutes each
  • two workshops of 30 minutes each
  • eight project/research reports (including question time) of 20 minutes each.

You are not required to nominate what sort of session you would like to present on your abstract submission, although this would be helpful.

Submitting Your Abstract/s
Click here to use the online abstract submission form. Complete all the fields on the Form and press the ‘SUBMIT’ button at the bottom when you are satisfied. (You may find it easier to compose your abstract using another program and copy and paste the text into the form.)

The form records the following information, which we need in order to assess your abstract:

  • author name/s and positions
  • presenter name and position
  • your contact details
  • 250 word abstract outlining the subject area of your presentation, its importance to palliative and end of life care in Western Australia, and the way in which you will engage the audience to influence clinical practice.

Selection Criteria
The Organising Committee will use the following criteria to select presentations:
1. capacity to influence clinical practice or social development
2. use of current evidence
3. relationship to the conference theme and specific areas of interest outlined above.

Abstracts will be de-identified during the intial review and selection phase.
